Nilu is a simpler take on paid video-response apps like Cameo. Tony Mandarano and the DeezyBreezy® team started with something complicated and confusing and, step-by-step, made it clear and easy to use. Our goal was straightforward: remove distractions, focus only on what’s needed, and leave enough room for people to interact naturally. Nilu’s idea is simple: “The easier the app, the better the conversations.” So what makes Nilu special in practice? It comes down to three key things: who it’s made for, how people create and interact with content, and its mobile-first approach. Now, let’s dive into the details.

Who is Nilu for?

Professionals.

Not celebrities.

Our world is used to conversations and activities centered around celebrities — and that makes sense, it’s human nature. But we couldn't shake the feeling that we’re only seeing the tip of the iceberg. Underneath lies a huge mass we tend to overlook: millions of talented people, open to the world and eager to make it better. People naturally gravitate towards them, wanting to ask questions and get meaningful, personal answers.

So how do we make sure these voices are heard? First things first: give talented people an audience! With Nilu, we've been carefully connecting the dots between professionals and influencers who truly bring value to others. Now it’s not just about singers or actors — it’s about skilled surgeons, precise engineers, curious artists, and anyone else who’s ready to share their most valuable ideas and insights.

A Different Philosophy

Real knowledge, not celebrity shoutouts. Useful videos instead of profiles.

We realized something important: a fresh idea needs a fresh way to handle content. When we first started, we thought creating numerous categories, detailed profiles, and extra fields made sense. Organizing questions by type, adding lots of fields, and building complex, multi-layered profile pages to convey as much information as possible seemed logical at first. But pretty soon it all felt messy. Tony and the team tried different ways, and eventually realized simpler was just better. You might think fewer options give fewer choices. But let’s pause for a second: where do you feel freer — when you fill in someone else’s form or when you write your own story? We noticed people become creative when we stop telling them exactly what to do.

Asking a question in Nilu became really simple: you click a button → write a question → pay → wait → get an answer. That’s literally it. Yes, there’s always behind-the-scenes stuff we need to handle — errors, technical details, and so on — but that’s on us. But the main idea here is fundamental: by removing extra fields, selectors, and unnecessary steps, we reduced cognitive load and gave users freedom, simplicity, and speed. Now, they can reach their goal without distractions, deciding for themselves what to ask and how to feel about it.

A similar transformation happened to the content itself. Now, instead of celebrity profiles taking center stage, valuable content is front and center. The first thing users see is a video feed inspired by TikTok, Instagram Reels, and YouTube Shorts. “Hold on!” you might say, “Isn’t that just another dopamine trap?” Well, partly yes — but we’re approaching this differently. From a design and user psychology standpoint, we emphasize two things. These videos actually help you as they’re real answers, not quick emotional boosts. They’re short, so they don’t waste your time. After all, we live in an age of fast internet, where saving time matters more than ever.

Mobile is first.

Paying attention to context.

Mobile devices dominate short and medium-length video consumption, driven by video accounting for over 75% of all mobile traffic (Ericsson Mobility Report), mobile phones generating approximately 62% of global web traffic (Digital 2023 Global Overview Report), and YouTube seeing about 63% of views from smartphones compared to just 12% from desktops (Backlinko). Short-form videos are especially popular among younger audiences: 57% of Gen Z and millennials prefer them for learning about products and services (Yaguara), while 73% of consumers favor short videos for quickly obtaining information (Hootsuite). The main advantages of mobile video are convenience, portability, and platform algorithms—like those used by TikTok—that optimize for vertical, instant interactions (Think with Google).
